Earth Day at the zoo has art, food and fun

LOWRY PARK - The Tampa Bay Sierra Club is sponsoring an Earth Day event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Lowry Park Zoo bandshell area.

With a theme of "Save Energy-You Have the Power," this year's event will feature eco-friendly entertainers, artists, food, plant vendors and groups demonstrating energy-efficient products and services.

Crafts and activities will be available for children. For more information, call 234-5009.

Neighborhood association to hear about road project

GUERNSEY ESTATES - The Bayside West Neighborhood Association will hold a general meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Regency Cove Community Room, 4851 W Gandy Blvd.

Marine Patrol gets boat from WCI Communities

GANDY/SUN BAY SOUTH - Tampa police Chief Steve Hogue and the police Marine Unit on Tuesday received a new $47,000 boat, donated by WCI Communities.

The Marine Patrol will use the boat to enforce marine laws, protect manatees and enhance marine safety in Tampa Bay and along the Hillsborough River.

Patrol officers will dock the boat at a slip donated by WCI Communities at Westshore Yacht Club. The location will provide marine officers quick access to waters around Picnic Island, the Gandy Bridge and Courtney Campbell Parkway. The boat replaces two aging vessels.

Expo focuses on fitness for those 55 and older

TAMPA - Lifestyle Family Fitness hosts a health expo from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at 27 locations throughout the Tampa Bay area.

The free event, geared toward people 55 and older, aims to inform the community about the role fitness plays in aging.

Events include educational seminars, enrollment specials, wellness screenings and low-impact senior fitness workshops.

All guest fees will be waived. For more information, visit any Lifestyle Family Fitness location.

Easter Seals to raffle his and hers convertibles

TAMPA - Easter Seals Florida has teamed up with Century 21 Reynolds Realty Co. and James-Rivard Pontiac-GMC to raise money for children by raffling his and hers convertibles.

The winner will receive a 2006 Pontiac G6 hardtop convertible and a 2006 Pontiac Solstice convertible roadster.

The raffle will be held during Easter Seals' Walk With Me Celebration at noon May 20 at Al Lopez Park. Up to 3,000 tickets are available for $100 each from now until the event. The winner does not need to be present to win.

Easter Seals provides assistance to disabled individuals and their families through child rehabilitation centers, job training, physical rehabilitation and more.
