TOWN 'N COUNTRY - You don't need to be an expert on flowers to appreciate the Town 'N Country Garden Circle's third annual Tour of Gardens. You don't even have to know the difference between an Agapanthus and a begonia. But you do need to be prepared to trek through some yards, about six in all, in Baycrest Park. "You'll go from one house with a tropical area in the back to another house with no grass and xeriscaping in front,'' said Fran Gamester, the garden circle's president. "There should be something for everyone.'' The tour is Sunday from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. and costs $10. Registration begins at 1 p.m. at West Gate Regional Library, 7606 Paula Drive. "You'll see two homes belonging to good friends whose back yards back up to each other where they've made their own little tour,'' Gamester said. "Then across the street are award-winning begonias that have won state awards.'' Gamester said the garden circle gets ideas for which yards to feature by driving around, and also from comment by civic association leaders. The first tour featured homes in Twelve Oaks and Town 'N Country. The second year's tour put the spotlight on homes in Pat Acres. Because education is one of the tour's goals, there will be one home showing how a garden can fit beautifully into a small space. Another home will be xeriscaped, illustrating how gardening can be accomplished using only native plants and little water. Money made from the tour will go back into neighborhood beautification projects. Gamester said this year's money is earmarked for the public park adjacent to the library. "We need money to put some big trees on the park,'' Gamester said. "We want instant shade.'' The tour includes a reception at 3:30 p.m. at the meeting room of the library. It will feature a buffet with a variety of food, as well as a dessert table. The Garden Circle's third annual plant sale is the same day, from noon until 5 in the library's pavilion. Most of the plants were grown by garden circle members. Their varieties include bromeliads, peace lilies and petunias. Gamester said cost of the plants will be about half of the retail price.
