Wuerffel, Doering among nine inducted into UF hall

GAINESVILLE - Former Heisman Trophy winner Danny Wuerffel and receiver Chris Doering were among nine athletes inducted into Florida's Hall of Fame on Friday at the F-Club in the north end zone of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
Wuerffel (1993-96) and Doering (1993-95) were a record-setting combination for former coach Steve Spurrier. Doering's 31 career touchdown receptions are a Florida record, while Wuerffel had 114 career TDs, an SEC record.
The other inductees: Dan Cross (basketball, 1992-95), women's tennis coach Andi Brandi (1985-2001), swimmer Amy Caulkins (1978-81), Cissie Donigan-Triglia (women's tennis, 1979-82), Shelly Steely (women's track/cross country, 1983-85), Wayne McDaniel (football, 1965-67), Andrea Anderson Spottswood (cheerleading, 1972-75).

Jimmy Clausen will orally commit to Notre Dame today, ESPN.com reported. Clausenis the most anticipated high school quarterback to come out of California since John Elway. His brothers Rick and Casey played for Tennessee. ... Bill Dooley, who led North Carolina, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest to bowl games in a head coaching career that spanned 26 seasons, was in critical but stable condition in a Durham, N.C., hospital after surgery to repair an aneurysm. ... Quarterback Kirby Freeman said he is staying at Miami, ending speculation he has grown tired of backing up Kyle Wright.
GOLF:
Florida's Brett Stegmaier carded a 2-under 68 to tie for second after the first round of the SEC men's tournament in Sea Island, Ga. The Gators' 5-over 285 was good for third, nine strokes behind leader Georgia. ... FSU's Matthew Savage was second in the ACC men's tournament in New London, N.C., after a 5-under 67. The Seminoles' 5-over 285 was good for third place, nine behind leader Georgia Tech.
SOFTBALL:
USF remained unbeaten in Big East play by sweeping visiting Pittsburgh 5-0 and 8-0. Bree Spence (Countryside) scattered five hits and recorded her sixth shutout in winning the opener, while Cristi Ecks posted her sixth shutout in the nightcap. Krista Holle (Chamberlain) scored once in the first game and had an RBI double in the second. ... Visiting Florida State (33-23, 7-8 ACC) fell to Virginia Tech 2-0.
TENNIS:
Dillon Brozyna (Saddlebrook Prep) defeated Alex Svetklakou 6-3, 7-5 at No. 4 singles as host USF earned its first Big East win by beating St. John's 4-3 and advancing to the semifinals of the league's men's tournament. ... Florida (15-6) advanced to the SEC men's semifinals for the fourth straight season by defeating South Carolina 4-1 in Tuscaloosa, Ala. ... Host USF blanked West Virginia 4-0 to advance to the semifinals of the Big East women's tournament.
TRACK AND FIELD:
Florida's Mike Morrison, a 12-time All-American, was named Indoor Field Athlete of the Year while while freshmen Willie Perry (men's) and Shannon Leinert (women's) were named freshman runners of the year by the SEC.
