PALM HARBOR - A Palm Harbor woman died early Sunday in a wreck on Belcher Road and Nebraska Avenue.

Beverly A. Gavin, 44, was headed west on Nebraska in a 2002 Envoy about 1 a.m. when she ran into a 1985 Toyota MR-2 driven by Dustin G. Stokes, 22, of Palm Harbor, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Stokes had been headed north on Belcher.

The FHP said the impact spun Gavin's car, which flipped onto its left side. Gavin was thrown out. She died at the scene. After the collision, Stokes' car hit a utility pole. Stokes was treated and released from St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa.

Charges are pending, the FHP said.

Girl, father, uncle burned after dress catches fire

CLEARWATER - An 8-year-old's birthday party dress caught fire Saturday night, burning her, her father and uncle.

She was flown to Tampa General Hospital with first- and second-degree burns over 10 percent of her body.

Pinellas County Sheriff's Office officials say about 12 adults and children were at Sadie Crawford's Northwood Drive home in the unincorporated Clearwater area for a party.

About 10:30, officials say Sadie used a step stool in the bathroom to reach a counter top and fetch a Band-Aid. An aroma candle on the counter top ignited the girl's frilly princess dress.

Her father, James, and an uncle tried to put the fire out with their hands. The two men were treated for minor burns at Tampa General. Sunday, Sadie was at Tampa General being treated for her injuries, which are not life-threatening, officials said.
