Focus on volunteers

The 20th annual Green Thumb Festival is looking for teen, adult, and family volunteers for tree sales, plant giveaways, children's arts and crafts, prize distribution and staffing the volunteer booth. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Walter Fuller Park, 7891 26th Ave. N, St. Petersburg. Students can receive volunteer service hours. Call 727 347-0371. Hundreds of abused, abandoned or neglected children need a Guardian ad Litem volunteer in Pinellas County. The volunteer helps make recommendations to the court to help ensure a safe and stable environment for the child. Meetings take place between the volunteer, teachers, caseworkers and the child's caretakers at select locations throughout the county. Call (727) 464-6528. Gulf Coast Community Care's Adopt-A-Grandchild Program, 14041 Ulmerton Road, Clearwater, is looking for 100 adults to mentor children in Pinellas County. The program seeks to match mentors with children in need of adult attention. A commitment of two to four hours a week is requested of the volunteers. Orientation, training and support will be provided. Volunteers are needed for concessions, program sales and other duties.
