'Grease' opens Thursday at Northeast High

Northeast High School drama department will present Grease: A New 50s Rock and Roll Musical at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Northeast High School auditorium, 5500 16th St. N. Admission is $5. Proceeds will benefit the drama department. Call 692-4467.

Chief to discuss fire service consolidation

Seminole fire Chief Daniel Graves will discuss the pros and cons of Countywide Fire Service Consolidation at 7 p.m. Thursday at the SPC/Seminole Library, 9200 113th St., Seminole. Call 595-6834.

Ride the Looper free to Rays games this weekend

The Baseball Looper Trolley will provide free shuttle service to Tropicana Field this weekend.

The service will start at 5:45 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11:45 a.m. Sunday; and will continue until one hour after the game ends. The trolley will stop at the Pier; at First Avenue N, mid-block between First and Second streets (the south side of the BayWalk parking garage); and at First Avenue S, just east of 16th Street. Commissioner Harris to speak at meeting

ST. PETERSBURG - County Commissioner Calvin Harris is the featured speaker at Thursday's 7 p.m. meeting of the African-American Voters Research and Education Committee at the Enoch Davis Center, 1111 18th Ave. S.

Harris will talk about the county's 10-year plan to end homelessness, and the county's mass transit system.

Church to hold its last campfire of the season

SEMINOLE - Lake Seminole Presbyterian Church will hold its last community campfire for the season at 7 p.m. Friday on the church grounds, 8505 113th St.

Young Life leaders will provide music for singing and listening. Pastor Bob Wierenga will tell a short story. There will be marshmallow roasting and s'mores.

Free tickets are being handed out by Young Life students at Seminole High School and by area Girl Scouts. Tickets also will be available at the campfire for a drawing for music tapes. If it rains, the campfire will be moved indoors.

Blues concert benefits domestic abuse victims

ST. PETERSBURG - A women's blues music benefit for victims of domestic abuse will be from 5 to 9 p.m. May 14 at Skipper's Smokehouse, 910 Skipper Road in Tampa.

Tickets are $7 in advance or $10 at the door. All proceeds from the event, called the Take Back the Night Mother's Day Benefit Concert, will go to such domestic violence prevention centers as CASA in St. Petersburg. Four other centers in the Tampa Bay area also will benefit. For information, call Skipper's, (813) 977-6474.

It's season's final concert for the Suncoast Singers

LARGO - The Suncoast Singers will conclude its 26th season with two concerts at the Largo Cultural Center, 7:30 p.m. May 20 and 2:30 p.m. May 21.

The group recently returned from a Carnegie Hall performance of Mozart's Requiem.

The singers will perform dance numbers, songs by Hoagy Carmichael and Irving Berlin, Roger Miller's Big River Suite and several patriotic selections.

Project HOPE still helping Katrina survivors

A program that originally began in 2004 after Hurricane Charley devastated areas of Charlotte and De Soto counties is offering help to Hurricane Katrina survivors.

Project HOPE (Helping Our People in Emergencies) is an outreach and referral service aimed at helping those who have moved to the area to rebuild their lives.

Programs offered include group and individual crisis counseling and referrals of resources within the community. Special programs focus on children and the elderly.

Hurricane Katrina survivors that now live in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Manatee, Sarasota and De Soto counties are eligible.

Founded by the Florida Center for Child and Family Development, in conjunction with the Department of Children and Families, the program has been funded for the next two months and will likely be extended through the end of the year.
