Bomb report at school a false alarm

By TIMES STAFF WRITER
Published April 28, 2006

SPRING HILL - Two middle school students were arrested Thursday at Powell Middle School and accused of making a false bomb threat.

The Sheriff's Office said school officials were told that someone had written a message in green on the girl's bathroom wall: "There is a bomb 4-27-06." After evacuating and searching the school, an investigation led to the two arrests. Both children face a felony charge for the false report of a bomb; both were being held at the Department of Juvenile Justice's detention facility in Ocala. Their names are not being published because they are juveniles. "Threats like this are not taken lightly," said Sheriff's spokeswoman Deputy Donna L. Black. "It is a very serious offense, just as if it were in an airport." Tuesday, two students were charged at Fox Chapel Middle School with making a false bomb report.
