Toddler found wandering alone; parents face charges

LARGO - A couple were arrested Thursday after their 17-month-old son was found wandering unsupervised at an adjacent residence for at least an hour, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.

The child, whose name was not released, was uninjured. Deputies responded to 135th Avenue N at 10:30 a.m. and found the child, sheriff's spokesman Mac McMullen said. They returned the toddler to his mother, Dana Slonaker, 21, and in plain view found marijuana at the home, McMullen said. Slonaker said the drugs belonged to the boy's father, Eric Ventimiglia, 22, who told deputies he had smoked in front of the child the previous night, McMullen said. Slonaker and Ventimiglia were arrested on a child neglect charge. Ventimiglia also faces drug charges. Bail information was unavailable Thursday afternoon.
