BARTOW - Brian Doyle, the deputy press secretary for the Homeland Security Department who was arrested April 4 and accused of trying to solicit a child on the Internet for sex, arrived in Polk County on Wednesday for his arraignment on multiple charges today. Doyle, 55, who was arrested at his home in Silver Spring, Md., originally planned to fight extradition. However, he changed his mind and paid the Sheriff's Office $2,000 for two deputies to fly to Maryland to pick him up and accompany him to Polk County, according to sheriff's spokeswoman Carrie Rodgers.

Doyle is charged with 23 third-degree felonies, each carrying a potential five-year sentence. He is accused of having illicit online conversations with a sheriff's deputy pretending to be a 14-year-old girl.

Doyle allegedly e-mailed the supposed girl 16 pornographic video clips and pictures, Rodgers said . He also revealed that he worked for the Homeland Security Department, sent his picture with his work badge and lanyard, and provided his home, cell and work phone numbers, Rodgers said.

Doyle's security clearance, employee badge and federal access permissions have been suspended.

Doyle is scheduled to appear at 10 a.m. in Judge J. Dale Durrance's courtroom, where bail may be set. He is represented by Bartow attorney Dick Mars, according to Rodgers.
