Slice it nice and straight

Cut through wrapping paper, coupons, newspapers, snack bags, envelopes with the Scotch paper cutter from 3M. The blade is protected by a plastic arch, so it's safe even for kids' fingers. Just push it forward and you're slicing. Tuck it in a purse or pocket. It's $6.49 at office supply and drug stores and mass merchants such as Target.

If Dad's just Ducky

Show Dad he's the greatest this Father's Day. Nominate him for Duck brand Duct Tape Dad of the Year. Write an essay (75 to 350 words) explaining why your dad should win the honor. Grand prize: a trip for four, starting June 16, to the third annual Avon Heritage Duct Tape Festival in Avon, Ohio, the Duct Tape Capital of the World. Besides a parade, rides, games and food, there are duct tape crafts, artwork, fashion and comedians. Plus $500 cash and a duct tape crown and scepter. Get busy! The deadline is Friday. Details are at www.avonducttapefestival.com.

The newest neutral

Here's your design tip of the week from interior designer Kay Green of Orlando, who does lots of model homes and clubhouses in new residential communities around here, including Grand Hampton in New Tampa. "The new black is chocolate brown," she says. She likes to use it with other colors such as seafoam green and lime.
