NEW PORT RICHEY - A puppy's debut before its owner's friends ended in bloodshed Friday when a pit bullterrier attacked.

An 18-year-old Hudson woman was with her puppy at a house on Loras Street around 7 p.m. when the pit bull, owned by one of the residents, found its prey, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.

The pit bull's owner tried to restrain his dog, but the pit bull held on. He only let go when the owner kicked him in the chest, and by then the puppy was dead.

The owner put the puppy in a garbage bag and called animal control to take his dog.

The report said: "(He) advised if animal control did not come and remove the pit bull, he would kill the dog himself."

A woman on Jerome Drive told a deputy Friday she had gotten 15 to 20 nasty calls between 5 and 8 that morning. The woman saw the number on the caller ID, and her husband called back and heard the coach's voice mail greeting.

But the phone had recently been stolen, according to a sheriff's report, and when the coach learned of the calls, he had it disconnected. The heavy breather remains at large.
