BAL HARBOUR - A construction frame collapsed at a high-rise project Saturday, killing three workers who became trapped in concrete, authorities said.
The workers were on the 27th floor of a building where a concrete floor was being poured when the frame below them gave way and they fell to the 26th floor, said Capt. Al Cruz of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.
A 3-foot layer of concrete fell onto the workers and partially buried them, said Capt. Allen Brown of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. Fellow workers tried to dig them out before rescue crews arrived.
The cause of the frame collapse was not immediately pinpointed.
"It's very unstable up there," Cruz said.
Another fire rescue spokesman initially said teams were searching for another missing worker, but Cruz later said no one else was missing. A fourth worker was taken to a hospital with what officials suspected was heart trouble.
The identities of the workers were not known.
