Focus on volunteers

The U.S. Coast Guard Flotilla 72, 1300 Beach Drive SE, St. Petersburg, needs members to help promote safe boating, both in the classroom and on the water. The organization, which assists the Coast Guard with search and rescue operations, monitoring of safety and security zones, as well as with other needs, is also looking for administrative volunteers. Community PreSchool, 1665 25th Ave. N, St. Petersburg, a nonprofit child care center, is searching for classroom aides, building maintenance workers and board members. Information: Mary Gray, (727) 895-2512.

Gulf Coast Community Care's Adopt-A-Grandchild Program, 14041 Ulmerton Road, Clearwater, is looking for adults to mentor children ages 3-16 in Pinellas County. The program seeks to match adult mentors with children in need of adult attention. Mentors plan activities including going to the park, arts and crafts, baking, fishing, sewing, and lending a sympathetic ear. Call (727) 538-7460.

Benedict Haven, an organization based in St. Petersburg that provides a permanent supervised home for adults who suffer severe and chronic mental illness, needs volunteers and donations of personal care items. Call (727) 527-2257.

Daystar Life Center, 226 Sixth St. S, St. Petersburg, is looking for volunteers Monday through Friday to help with interviewing, pantry work, data entry and client assistance. The center provides food and other basic necessities to those in need. Call (727) 825-0442.
