A look at this weekend's Festival of States

The Festival of States, St. Petersburg's longtime civic celebration, wraps up this weekend with a comedy act, a Beach Boys concert, a family fun fest, a 5K run, a kids festival and, for the first time, a pet festival and parade. It's all on the downtown St. Petersburg waterfront. The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile will be at the KidsFest from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, offering those 6 and older the chance to enter its "Sing the Jingle, Be a Star" contest. (See www.singthejingle.com for details.) Other highlights: Comedy in the Park with the Second City Touring Company, 7 p.m. today, North Straub Park, $10. Harvey's 4th Street Grill 5K and 1-mile fun run, Friday. The 1-mile starts at 6:15 p.m. and 5K at 6:30 p.m. on Fifth Avenue N, near the Vinoy hotel. $20 for 5K, $10 for one-mile. Illuminated Night Parade, 8 p.m. Friday, starts at Central Avenue and Fifth Street and runs to the waterfront, then north on Bayshore Drive; fireworks follow. Free. Verizon FunFest with car, truck and motorcycle show, KidsFest, TASCO teen and music stage, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Vinoy and North Straub parks. Free. Pets Parade and Festival of Pets, 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, North Straub Park and North Shore Dog Park. Free. Beach Boys concert, gates 4 p.m., concert 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Vinoy Park, $10 advance, $15 day of show. Arts and Crafts Show, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in South Straub Park.
