AL: Tigers might send Young to disabled list
By TIMES WIRES
Published May 13, 2006
Tigers designated hitter Dmitri Young, sidelined from April 15 to May 5 with a strained right quadriceps, could be headed back to the DL.
"He said he felt better today, but he still can't play," manager Jim Leyland said. "I'm not really sure how it will play out. We don't want to go seven or eight days (playing) short."
ATHLETICS: Former Yankee Randy Keisler was brought up from the minors before the series opener in New York. The left-handed Keisler, 30, was 3-2 with a 2.94 ERA in six starts and one relief appearance with Triple-A Sacramento. Keisler has a 4-4 record and 7.01 ERA in 17 major-league starts and 23 relief appearances, pitching for the Yankees in 2000 and 2001, San Diego in 2003 and Cincinnati in 2005. To clear roster space, Oakland optioned right-hander Matt Roney to its top farm team and designated right-hander Chris Mabeus for assignment. The A's have 10 days to trade Mabeus, send him outright to the minors or release him.
ROYALS: Right-hander Steve Andrade was optioned to Triple-A Omaha to make room for reliever Chris Booker, who was claimed off waivers from Philadelphia earlier in the week. Booker opened the season on a rehabilitation assignment. The right-hander posted a 3.71 ERA in 12 appearances at Class-A Clearwater and Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes Barre.
WHITE SOX: Chicago purchased the contract of right-handed reliever Agustin Montero from Triple-A Charlotte. Montero, 28, was 1-0 with a 0.73 ERA and one save in 13 appearances for Charlotte this season and will get his first crack at the big leagues. He takes the place of right-hander Charlie Haeger, roughed up Wednesday against the Angels. Haeger gave up five hits and six runs in 41/3 innings in his major league debut, filling in for injured Jose Contreras.
