Daily fishing report

Warming inshore waters are churning with activity, but bigger grouper and snapper are moving to deeper reefs. Sinkholes in the gulf attract huge schools of amberjack and deep wrecks populate with a combination of benthic and pelagic species.
Divers seeking these powerful fish should take extra precautions, such as large nitrox primary tanks and small auxiliary pony tanks with spare regulators.
The fourth annual Spearboard Open will bring spearfishermen to the Tampa Bay area from across the southeast United States this weekend. The tournament is unique because divers shoot fish in their local waters on Saturday and drive their catches to the weigh-in on Sunday morning. The weigh-in is at the Rotary Pavilion in New Port Richey.
Last year more than 240 competitors entered, making it one of the largest spearfishing tournaments in the world. A barbecue and spearfishing expo follows the weigh-in, and the day finishes with the awards ceremony.
