Young runners invited to join club

SEMINOLE - The first "Junior Marathon Club" will be hosted by the Seminole Recreation Division this summer. Kids ages 5-15 can participate by meeting at the Seminole Recreation Center athletic fields at 8 a.m. May 24. Participants will have an opportunity to complete their first marathon by running half a mile to 1 mile every Monday, Wednesday and Friday with the Junior Marathon Club. Every kid who completes the 26.1 mile challenge during the summer will receive an official certificate of completion, a T-shirt and medal. For information, call 391-8345.

Dave Healey, executive director of the Pinellas Planning Council, will talk about the county's comprehensive plan at the Seminole Chamber of Commerce luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Banquet Masters, 8100 Park Blvd. Advance payment of $12 and reservations are requested. Pinellas Trails Inc. will meet at 6:30 p.m. May 24 in Room A of the New Largo Library, 120 Central Park Drive. Meetings are open to all Pinellas County residents interested in serving on the Pinellas Trail Board or one of its committees, or helping out at any of its events. Deputy Victor Pavone of the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office Crime Prevention Unit will discuss how to prevent identity theft at 7 p.m. May 25 at the Seminole Community Library. The public event is hosted by USEM-Community Association, which provides information, education and services to the community. For information about this event, call 595-6834.

Free Business Leads & Skills Development Workshops, sponsored by the Seminole Chamber of Commerce, are held at 7:30 a.m. the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month in the TLC Building, Room 108, of St. Petersburg College, Seminole. Workshops include:

Seminole United Methodist Church sponsors a supper from 6 to 6:45 p.m. every Wednesday. Activities that follow the supper include a KidZone and a Level 54 for youth, and a Spanish language class, prayer group, parenting skills class and others for adults. The Rev. The Seminole Recreation Division will host the second annual "Tri If You Dare" Kids Triathlon on June 25. The event is open to kids 5-15. Participants will receive a medal, T-shirt and pool party. Distances are: ages 5 to 6, run one-quarter mile, bike 1 mile, swim 25 yards; ages 7-10: run half a mile, bike 2.7 miles, swim 100 yards; ages 11-15: run 1 mile, bike 4 miles, swim 150 yards.

Registration fee is $20 before June 18 and $30 after June 19. Participants must pick up packets from 1 to 4 p.m. June 24 at the Holland G. Magnum Recreation Complex. For more information, call Jim Sheets, recreation director, at 391-8345.
