2 home invaders leave with just $10, books

Their victims were students, and it appears cash was in short supply, police say.

PORT RICHEY - In any economy, the winners find a way to maximize their potential for reward while minimizing their risk of disaster.

On Limington Drive on Tuesday afternoon, two young men did the opposite.

Their risk: life in prison.

Their reward: $10 cash and a bag of textbooks.

A 21-year-old man told sheriff's deputies he was at home with his sister and a friend about noon when the intruders burst in. One brandished a chrome semiautomatic handgun; the second pressed a knife to his back.

"Where's the money?" the gunman said, according to a sheriff's report. "Give us your cash and shut up."

But all three victims were students, and it appears cash was short. The men found $10 in a bedroom, and a black Nike book bag, and fled in an unknown direction.

Investigators are calling it an armed home-invasion robbery, which under state law carries a potential sentence of life in prison.

The robbers were still at large Wednesday.
