TAMPA —  A 65-year-old Tampa man died in a two-vehicle accident Friday morning on Florida Avenue, just south of Fletcher Avenue, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

The man’s name was not released, pending notification of his family, said sheriff’s spokesman J.D. Callaway.

The collision happened at 7:08 a.m. The driver of a 2001 Chevrolet van was headed north on Florida Avenue, when the van crossed into the southbound lanes, hitting a 1996 Ford Explorer, deputies say.

The driver of the van, the 65-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies say.

Five people in the Explorer were taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital. The driver of the SUV was Belikis Dalila Acurero, 32, of 7003 Belt Link Loop in Wesley Chapel. One passenger was Andrew Acurero, 5, of the same address. The three others, all listed at 7001 Belt Link Loop, were Jose Carlos, 4; Euglimar Mendoza, 9; and Eqlisky Acurero, 34, deputies say.
