Deputies seek wanted teen near Freedom High

By TIMES STAFF WRITER
Published May 20, 2006

TAMPA - Students at Freedom High School may have noticed Hillsborough sheriff's deputies near the school's campus Friday.

That's because deputies were looking for a teenager wanted on charges of grand theft of a firearm, said sheriff's spokesman J.D. Callaway. He said deputies wanted to be sure the teen didn't have a gun on campus.

Deputies did not find the teenager at the school at 17410 Commerce Park Blvd. in New Tampa. The school day was not interrupted because of the search, Callaway said. Deputies left the school shortly after 1:15 p.m.

"We have no idea where he is," Callaway said.

The Sheriff's Office withheld the name of the teen because of his age.

School spokeswoman Linda Cobb said the teenager hadn't been enrolled at the school for the last week, but he is being educated elsewhere.
