Camp a plus for Weatherford

Land O' Lakes' top QB gains confidence and another college suitor in Ole Miss, but UCF still tops his list.

LAND O'LAKES - Joe Weatherford's participation last weekend at a Nike camp at the University of Florida was worthwhile on two fronts.

The Land O'Lakes junior said Mississippi is among his top college choices. He also left Gainesville with a lot of confidence.

"It went real good," said Weatherford, whose brother Drew is Florida State's starting quarterback. "They said I was the No. 1 quarterback there.

"I definitely think I'm one of the best quarterbacks in the state and that was a chance for me to prove it."

Weatherford was among five county players at the camp. Land O'Lakes teammates Develin Robinson and Weatherford's brother John, along with Zephyrhills' Sederrik Cunningham and Beau Barnes, also participated in drills.

Mississippi has joined the mix of suitors for Weatherford, who last season passed for 1,945 yards and 14 touchdowns. He listed Central Florida, Connecticut and Louisville as other possibilities.

"I'm starting to come around to Ole Miss because they saw me at the camp," Weatherford said. "They're planning on coming down to watch me."

One school, however, has remained the frontrunner.

"UCF has got a pretty strong hold on me," Weatherford said.
