ALF operator accused of abuse

Police say he sexually abused a mentally disabled woman at the Largo facility.

LARGO - Police arrested the operator of a Largo assisted living facility Wednesday and charged him with sexually abusing a mentally disabled female resident.

Gary Jude Singh, 47, faces a single count of sexual battery on a disabled person, a felony.

Largo police declined to name the assisted living facility where they said the abuse occurred.

State records list Gary J. Singh as administrator of Elzaida's Caring Hands, a nine-bed home on Madrid Avenue. A woman who answered the phone at Caring Hands late Wednesday identified herself as an employee and said no one was available to answer questions.

Police said there is no evidence that other residents were abused by Singh, who lives at the home.

The victim is in her 50s, police said, and lived at the home for four years. Earlier this year, she told her sister that the facility's owner had touched her inappropriately.

The sister contacted police.

They said Singh, the facility's operator for the past six years, first fondled the woman before progressing to other sexual acts.

The woman's family has since removed her from the home, where six residents now live, police said.

Singh was being held at the Pinellas County Jail Wednesday in lieu of $50,000 bail.
