LARGO - The victim had injuries to her face, arms, torso, legs, head and neck.
She told Pinellas County sheriff's deputies that her husband beat her repeatedly over the weekend, using his fists, feet, shoes and a shower head.
At one point, Nayland Devon Kilpatrick began strangling his wife, ToniAnn, with his hands until she lost consciousness, authorities said.
Kilpatrick, 32, was arrested Tuesday and charged with single counts of domestic attempted murder and felony false imprisonment in connection with his wife's injuries. He was being held without bail in the Pinellas County Jail on Wednesday.
ToniAnn Kilpatrick, whose condition was unavailable Wednesday, told deputies that the beatings began Saturday and continued through Sunday. Investigators met with the 32-year-old woman Sunday evening after being dispatched to St. Petersburg General Hospital, where she lay with marks on her throat and other injuries to her body, authorities said.
ToniAnn Kilpatrick says the abuse happened at their home, Apartment B at 3793 135th Avenue in Largo, officials said. She told deputies that her husband held her down and kept her from leaving, telling her several times while beating her severely with numerous objects, including a shower head, that he was going to kill her.
On Sunday morning, Nayland Devon Kilpatrick shoved his wife to the floor and tried to strangle her, according to an arrest affidavit. She lost consciousness, but was awakened after Kilpatrick repeatedly struck her face in an apparent attempt to rouse her, deputies say.
He also pushed her on their bed and held a knife to her throat, leaving marks, and put a pillow over her face, the report said.
On March 22, sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the residence on a narcotics-related call, said agency spokesman Mac McMullen. County records show that Nayland Devon Kilpatrick was charged with a misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana, for which he has pleaded not guilty.
A domestic violence injunction was filed against Kilpatrick on Tuesday.
