BRANDON - A Tampa man was jailed on kidnapping and aggravated assault charges Wednesday after a traveling companion accused him of holding her against her will for the past month.

Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies arrested Thomas Glenn "Bubba" Lafferty, 36, at the Homestead Studio Suites, 330 Grand Regency Blvd., about 11 a.m.

Lafferty, whose last known address was 4506 72nd St. N, Tampa, also was charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle and possession of methamphetamines and drug paraphernalia.

Deputies charged the accuser, Heather Joann Boyer, with grand theft of a motor vehicle and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Boyer, of 2201 Shermont Place in Brandon, told deputies she and Lafferty met about three months ago, sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter said. They originally planned to stay together only for the weekend, Boyer told deputies, but Lafferty had a gun and threatened to shoot her if she left. Boyer also told deputies Lafferty did not physically harm her.

Lafferty was convicted of felony aggravated battery in 2003. He was held without bail Thursday at the Orient Road Jail. Boyer was being held on $3,000 bail.
