VFW Post 8713 will have service, burgers, hot dogs

BROOKSVILLE - Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8713 will sponsor a Memorial Day celebration on Monday.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. at Rogers Christmas House, 103 S Saxon Ave. Post Cmdr. Jim Simonetti and other post and auxiliary members will participate in the service. Auxiliary member Kathy Nelson will perform military music on the keyboard and finish with taps.
After the service, hot dogs and hamburgers will be served at the post at 1686 E Jefferson St.

Decorated pilot to speak at National Cemetery
BUSHNELL - The Florida National Cemetery Memorial Day Ceremony will be at 10 a.m. Monday.
The scheduled speaker will be Capt. Alexander Harlemor, who is the detachment commander for Company A, 642nd Aviation Intermediate Maintenance at Cecil Field in Jacksonville, as well as the logistics management officer for the Army Aviation Support Facility in Brooksville.
Harlemor is a decorated pilot who served on active duty between September 2004 and October 2005.
The Avenue of Flags, which includes about 400 flags donated to the cemetery by relatives of deceased veterans, will be on display along cemetery roads.
Patriotic and inspirational music will begin before the ceremony. Soloist Linda Burnette will sing and Veterans of Foreign Wars members Garfield Jones and Gayle Williams will perform taps. The Ye Mystic Aircrew will conduct a flyover, and the Florida National Guard will provide the gun salute.
Veterans organizations and other groups with colors are encouraged to participate in the massing of colors at the beginning of the ceremony. Groups wishing to participate should arrive by 8:30 a.m.
The cemetery's public information center will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Memorial Day, and representatives will be there to assist visitors.
Seating will be limited, and visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets.
The cemetery is at 6502 SW 102nd Ave., 1 mile west of Interstate 75 at Exit 309 (Webster exit). For information, call the cemetery office from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays at (352) 793-7740.
"Music in the Garden' features acoustical guitars
SPRING HILL - The Spring Hill Garden Club will have a "Music in the Garden" Memorial Day concert from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday at the Nature Coast Botanical Gardens on Parker Avenue.
The Acoustical Guitar Club of Spring Hill will entertain. Garden tours and refreshments will be offered. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. Donations to help keep up the botanical gardens will be accepted.

VFW Post 10209 will have Frankie Dee NY Orchestra
SPRING HILL - Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10209 will have a Memorial Day celebration and dance from 2 to 5 p.m. Monday.
The event will include music by the Frankie Dee NY Orchestra, and food will be available. Admission will be $5.
Also, donation cans will be set up in the post hall for those wishing to give to the New Building Fund. Construction is expected to start soon at the post's new site off Anderson Snow Road, which the post expects to move into before the end of the year.

Tuesday is the big day for Brooksville celebration
BROOKRIDGE - The Brookridge community will have its annual Memorial Day ceremony at noon Tuesday at the clubhouse, 8150 Hampton St.
The theme will be "Under These Flags We Have Served." The event will include a chronology and history of Old Glory, presented by Knights of Columbus members. Past Grand Knight H. "Obie" O'Brien will narrate.

Hills Memorial Cemetery will have service Tuesday
SPRING HILL - A Memorial Day service will be presented at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Florida Hills Memorial Cemetery, 14354 Spring Hill Drive, east of the Suncoast Parkway.
The event is cohosted by Florida Hills Memorial Gardens, Turner Funeral Homes and VFW Post 10209. For details, call 796-0398 or 796-7080.
