Summit helps prepare for storm season, protect data

The past two hurricane seasons have been a wakeup call on disaster-preparation plans and data protection for many businesses.

That may explain why more than 200 companies will attend the Disaster Recovery and Data Protection Summit at the Tampa Airport Marriott. The free conference will be Wednesday and Thursday. Thursday, of course, is the start of hurricane season.

Sponsored by three bay area companies, Data Management Institute, Toigo Partners International and TPI Technologies, the event will include speakers such as Michael Palmer, director of IT infrastructure and communications for the National Football League, and Jay Romig, IT manager for the New Orleans Saints. They will talk about what they had to do after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans.

Others will speak on preparations businesses can take to ensure they get up and running after a storm, and the National Weather Service will discuss the threats from severe weather.

More information is available at summit.datainstitute.org.
