A complication from back surgery has forced Luciano Pavarotti to postpone five June dates on his worldwide farewell tour, his manager said Tuesday. Canadian performances in Calgary, Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto, and a U.S. date in Washington have been delayed until October, Terri Robson said. Last month, the 70-year-old tenor released a statement saying he expected to recover in time for the June dates. "However, he went on to develop an infection during his stay in the hospital," Robson said. "This condition has unfortunately delayed his recovery time." Pavarotti was staying in New York to continue with intensive physical therapy, his manager said. His farewell tour was expected to resume in July with shows in the United Kingdom. Brad, Angie say thanks In a statement to People magazine Tuesday, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt thanked the staff of Cottage Medi-Clinic Hospital in Namibia "for all their kindness and commitment" in the birth of their daughter, Shiloh, last weekend. The baby was delivered by the couple's Los Angeles obstetrician, Jason Rothbart. He told People that he delivered the child, weighing 7 pounds, by caesarean section "due to breech presentation." "Brad was with Angelina in the operating room the entire time and cut the umbilical cord of his daughter," Rothbart said. "The surgery and birth went flawlessly. The staff, nurses and doctors I worked with at the Cottage Medi-Clinic Hospital were amazing." Bulletin: Celebrity child given common name Oscar winner Mira Sorvino has given birth to her second child with actor-husband Chris Backus, a son they named Johnny. "The baby is healthy and happy, and mother and the rest of the family are very, very excited," Sorvino's representative, Ed Choi, said Tuesday. The baby was born Monday in Beverly Hills, Calif., and weighed 7 pounds, 14 ounces. Sorvino, 38, and Backus, 24, have an 18-month-old daughter, Mattea Angel. Rapper's shooting ruled self-defense The man police say killed rapper Proof in a Detroit nightclub shootout acted lawfully in defense of another man, the Wayne County prosecutor said Tuesday. But Mario Etheridge still will have to face weapons charges in the April 11 shooting in which Etheridge's cousin Keith Bender also was killed. "The evidence clearly shows that Mario Etheridge acted in lawful self-defense of another when he shot Deshaun Holton," prosecutor Kym Worthy said, using Proof's legal name. "Once the gunshots started, everything happened fairly quickly." She said Etheridge shot twice at the ceiling to stop Proof - who was a member of D12 and was Eminem's best friend - before aiming the gun at him. - Times wires
