Sheriff's personnel investigate a Kia sedan Tuesday at Patty Drive and National Orange Avenue in Oldsmar. The body of Marcos Antonio Diaz, 23, of Odessa was found in the car.

OLDSMAR - Just before 2 a.m. Tuesday, Vince Wingfield said, he was awakened by three quick gunshots.

He peered out the back window of his home on Country Club Drive and heard two more shots. He said he saw a car speed away.

Maybe the noise came from leftover Memorial Day fireworks, he told himself.

About 8:30 a.m., two fishermen found a man's body inside a beige Kia sedan parked along an unpaved portion of National Orange Avenue, just south of Patty Drive.

The road leads to a boat ramp that is part of the Mobbly Bayou Wilderness Preserve.

Pinellas County sheriff's deputies were investigating the apparent homicide of Marcos Antonio Diaz, 23, of 15618 Shoal Creek Place, Odessa.

Diaz's cause of death will be released after an autopsy is performed, said a Sheriff's Office spokesman, Sgt. Jim Bordner.

Bordner said he was not aware of any suspects and didn't know what Diaz was doing in Oldsmar. He said the sedan belongs to Diaz's father, who lives at the same address.

The family refused to comment Tuesday night.

Anyone with information should call Detective Jim Beining at (727) 582-6200 or CrimeStoppers toll-free at 1-800-873-8477.
