LARGO - A 20-year-old Pinellas Park man died Monday night when he lost control of the motorcycle he was riding, hit a concrete barrier and was ejected 27 feet off an overpass to another roadway, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Dave Jackson, who lived on 52nd Street N, was riding a 2005 Kawasaki Ninja west on Roosevelt Boulevard at 10:20 p.m. Monday, Trooper Larry Coggins said. Jackson continued on the overpass to Ulmerton Road when he lost control.

"He failed to negotiate the roadway there," Coggins said. "That's pretty much it, with catastrophic results."

Jackson entered the emergency lane, hit the barrier with the motorcycle's front tire and was thrown into the air, Coggins said. Jackson, who was wearing a helmet, hit a light pole and landed in the westbound lane of Ulmerton.

Jackson was taken to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg and pronounced dead. His was the only fatal traffic crash in Pinellas County during Memorial Day weekend, Coggins said.

Records show he has previously lived in Largo and St. Petersburg.

Staff researcher Carolyn Edds contributed to this report.
