TAMPA -- A former Pinellas County elementary school teacher has been charged with possessing, receiving and distributing child pornography, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced Wednesday.

The investigation began in August after agents suspected that Kenneth Charles Fire, 58, of St. Petersburg had child pornography on his computer, a news release stated.

Fire resigned as a computer technology teacher and reading coach at Maximo Elementary School after federal agents confronted him with the allegation.

Fire faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. He was released on $25,000 bail .

One teenager killed, another hurt in brawl

ST. PETERSBURG - A brawl between two groups of youths Wednesday afternoon ended with one dead and another in surgery.

Police were called to the intersection of 17th Avenue S and 29th Street about 6 p.m. Wednesday after residents heard shots and saw one of the youths on the ground.

Before police arrived, some friends put 18-year-old Forbes Swisher into a car and took him to Bayfront Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Marquise Davis, 16, underwent surgery for two gunshot wounds and was listed in stable condition.

Police were still investigating what caused the brawl. Swisher's death was the 10th homicide in St. Petersburg this year.
