Hot Ticket: A not-so-odd 'Couple'

Theater patrons who saw Candler Budd and Matthew McGee in the recent American Stage production of The Big Bang and, like Times reviewer Marty Clear, longed "to see them take on something more worthy of their talent," now have their chance.

Budd and McGee will star in the Show Palace Dinner Theatre's take on Neil Simon's classic, The Odd Couple, opening Friday for an eight-week run.

This time, patrons will not only see the duo's comedic skills, they'll see them do some serious acting.

"This is a drama with comedy elements," McGee said. "We're not playing it as over-the-top comedy. We want to play it real and real honest. We are going to be inhabiting those characters."

Budd plays sloppy sportswriter Oscar Madison and McGee is his best friend, fastidious photographer Felix Ungar.

The Odd Couple has matinees and evening performances Friday through July 23 at the Show Palace Dinner Theatre, 16128 U.S. 19, Hudson. Dinner and show, $41; show only, $29.95, plus tax and tip. Reservations required. Call (727) 863-7949 in west Pasco; toll-free elsewhere at 1-888-655-7469.
