Hot Ticket: There's still time to catch a Covivant exhibit

Oh, no! Covivant, the plucky Tampa gallery that balances on the edge, literally and artistically, may close. Long-time owner Carrie Mackin is making noises about moving to New York and may or may not find someone else to run it. If that's the case, Seminole Heights will lose an important cultural component and the Tampa Bay area will lose a vibrant arts venue that has often exhibited the kind of work usually seen only in big-city spots like New York. "100 Smacks . . . Or More!" is Covivant's annual fundraiser, not designed to convey a focused viewpoint or showcase an artist. Instead, several dozen artists hang work that is mostly modestly priced, between $100 and $500. But the names are a roll call of the bay area's brightest younger talents, including Richard Beckman, Tracy Midulla, Tes One, Ryan Berg, Kathie Olivas, Chris Deacon, John Byrd, Neil Bender, Joe Griffith, BASK, Sabrina Small, whose hand-stitched drawing on felt is shown above, and many more. Also on view are clothing and art designed by Iron On Resistance. This is the final weekend for the show, and maybe for Covivant, located at 4906 N Florida Ave., Tampa.
