LOCATION: 500 S Himes Ave., between DeLeon and Horatio streets.
DEVELOPER: 500 S Himes Development Co. LLC of Tampa
DESCRIPTION: Condominium conversion of the Beverly Apartments. The 70 units range from 600 to 900 square feet, and have one bedroom and one bathroom or two bedrooms and two bathrooms.
PRICE: $165,000 to $300,000
AMENITIES: Hardwood floors; washing machines and dryers added to each unit; new kitchens with granite counter tops; new bathrooms with bowl sinks and nickel-plated fixtures; pool area with water feature wall and new landscaping; porch or balcony with every unit; 10 units have 18-foot dome-shaped lofted ceilings.
WHAT THEY'RE SAYING: OC listing agent Larry Sweat said he came up with the name while standing in the complex's enclosed courtyard. "It's busy out there, but it's really nice in here,'' he remembers thinking. "It's really like an oasis club." So he shortened it to the OC. Is it also a reference to the popular television show? "Maybe the thought ran through my mind," Sweat said. He added that the property's original name is a reference to the wife of the developer, Al Austin.
TIMELINE: The Beverly Apartments were built in 1964. The condo conversion began Feb. 1. Exterior work should be finished this week, and the interiors should be done by the beginning of July, Sweat said.
MOVE-IN DATE: Some time in July.
