Public can comment on Curtis Hixon Park plan

DOWNTOWN - Residents are invited to give their input about redeveloping Curtis Hixon Park and improving Ashley Drive.

The public meeting starts at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Maestro's at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center.

The city has hired Thomas Balsley and Associates to design the Downtown Waterfront Park, a key component of the mayor's plan to revitalize downtown. HDR Inc. is crafting improvements for Ashley from Interstate 275 to Kennedy Boulevard.

Tampa Knights advance to State Cup soccer final four

TAMPA - The Tampa Knights Kickers under-13 boys soccer team has made it to the State Cup final four tournament.

The boys played against teams from Jacksonville, Miami and West Pines to advance to the semifinals.

Greg Knight coaches the team with assistants Arnold Eichof and Laurent Thuriere.

The final four tournament begins Saturday. The Kickers play their semifinal game at 3:45 p.m. against FC America at Palm Bay Regional Park.

The Kickers' home field is at Monroe Middle School in Sun Bay South.

School superintendent to speak to Ybor chamber

YBOR CITY - MaryEllen Elia, superintendent of Hillsborough County Schools, will be the guest speaker for the Ybor City Chamber of Commerce luncheon at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday at the Columbia Restaurant, 2117 E Seventh Ave.

The cost is $20 for members and $22 to $24 for guests at the door. Call 248-3712, ext. 22.
