Ridge pulls out of commission race

BROOKSVILLE - Environmental activist Sindra Ridge dropped out of the District 4 County Commission race Thursday, less than a month after she announced plans to challenge the Republican candidate, state Rep. David Russell. Ridge, 48, a Democrat, became prominent as the leading opponent to the planned Hickory Hill development near her home in Spring Lake. When she announced Thursday, she said she had not realized how much time and energy she would have to devote to the race. "I hope all the people who support me can understand that,'' she said. Russell is forbidden to run for re-election to the House because of term limits. He is running for the seat now held by Commissioner Robert Schenck, a Republican who is planning to run for Russell's District 44 House seat.
