A chance to network with black businesses

By Times Staff

Two Tampa businesses are kicking off an event to introduce customers to other black businesses in the city.

During Saturday's first Black Business Bus Tour, people can ride a tour bus to five businesses, then mingle with about 25 vendors at the Harbor Club in Sulphur Springs.

Road Ready Travel of Lutz and Candy Lowe Tea Time in the Harbor Club are sponsoring "A June Celebration of Our Community Black Businesses.'' The event is free, though participants are asked to spend at least $5 in each of the businesses they visit.

"A lot of our minority-owned businesses are so spread out that people don't know where they're at,'' says Bob Massey, owner of Road Ready Travel, who is donating the buses. "They're like hidden jewels.''

Buses will leave the Harbor Club, 915 E. Grant Ave., at 8:30 a.m. and return for people to take part in a networking session with other businesses from 1 to 3 p.m.

Participants should make reservations by noon Wednesday by calling 813 964-1062 or (813) 394-6363, or by e-mailing roadready@verizon.net.
