Sandbags available as storm looms

By Times Staff

In preparation for Tropical Storm Alberto, Pasco County officials are making sand and sandbags available to coastal residents worried about flooding. They are available at Fire Station 10, 7912 Rhodes Road, Hudson; and Station 12, 2951 Seven Springs Blvd., New Port Richey. "The sandbags are available as long as there's a threat to our coast,'' said Annette Doying, duty officer for Pasco County Emergency Management. Otherwise, officials are urging vigilance. "Anybody west of (U.S.) 19 should definitely be aware that there's a system out there in the gulf that's going to be moving,'' Doying said.

Girl, 6, dies after falling into pool

LAND O'LAKES -A 6-year-old girl died Saturday after falling into a pool at a home. She was alive when emergency workers took her to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, but she later died, the Sheriff's Office said. No other details were available Sunday. The incident is being investigated. "It appears purely accidental at this time," sheriff's Lt. Rick Moore said.
