Burt Reynolds museum might need a new home

JUPITER - Some of Burt Reynolds' memorabilia may need to find a new home to make room for a nonprofit biomedical research institute moving to the area. The Jupiter Town Council is looking to sell the building that houses the Burt Reynolds & Friends Museum to make way for the Scripps Research Institute. Officials for the institute say the facility will bring hundreds of scientists to the area. The museum, at a leased location, houses decades of Reynolds' memorabilia. It also hosts numerous film educational courses. Reynolds has a home in nearby Jupiter Island, named the richest town in America several times by Worth magazine. "I know this sale is the inducement of Scripps, since the town promised 'X' amount to get Scripps in, and are selling the building to do it," museum director Mike Daniel said. Jupiter pledged $3-million to bring Scripps to Abacoa. Town Manager Andy Lukasik has said that this, plus the potential of using the property to help go forward on another project, are incentives for the eventual sale. The town's next step is to get an appraisal on the property and decide if it should be sold as one parcel or split up.
