Woman says she stabbed man who threatened her

TAMPA - A Tampa woman told police that she stabbed her friend's boyfriend to death late Saturday in self-defense.

Shantae Johnson, 22, told police that the man threatened to kill her and was choking her when she used two kitchen knives and stabbed him in the neck. Detectives had not charged Johnson as of Sunday, pending further investigation.

Tampa police did not release the victim's name Sunday because his relatives had not been notified. Johnson declined to comment.

The man and his girlfriend were arguing about 11:45 p.m. Saturday when Johnson tried unsuccessfully to intervene. She left to return home, 2801 Satellite Court, No. 203, at the Columbus Court Apartments, and the man followed her screaming, police said.

Inside Johnson's apartment, the two continued to argue, and Johnson stabbed the man, she said.

Police connect volunteer with slaying through flier

DAYTONA BEACH - A wanted flier on a detective's desk helped authorities connect a homeless center volunteer with a 2001 slaying in Illinois, police said.

David Gibson Lindsay was expected to be extradited to Illinois after his first court appearance Sunday, a day after his arrest on an outstanding warrant from Decatur, Ill. He faced charges of first-degree murder and theft of a vehicle, Sgt. Al Tolley said.

A Daytona Beach officer recognized Lindsay in the wanted flier as a volunteer seen distributing clothes at a local homeless center.

Federal authorities sought Lindsay in connection with the slaying of an elderly Decatur man in December 2001, police said. He was tracked to Daytona Beach in 2002, but the trail went cold, police said.

Lindsay served nine years in an Illinois prison for the 1988 murder of his wife, authorities said.
