Surcharge for insurer of last resort unfair and unwanted

We recently received the invoice for our home insurance and were appalled to find an extra $163.06 charge titled "Citizens Insurance." We have dealt with State Farm insurance for a while and we have seen the cost of home insurance skyrocket over the years, to the point that some residents are not covering their homes anymore. We have nothing to do with Citizens Insurance, and I don't see why we should be paying for the mishandling of Citizens Insurance by the state of Florida. Home insurance is high as it is, and we definitely don't need additional charges imposed by the state. Yolanda DeMarino, Spring Hill Dogs at restaurants raise concerns, not just legs A recent article mentioned that Gov. Jeb Bush has signed a bill allowing pet owners to take their dogs with them to eat outside at restaurants. It even had a picture of Bush holding a good-looking dog. The part I am curious about is the sharing of the "brewskis" and hot dog together. I've shared a few brewskis in my time, along with a hot dog. If a dog is served a brewski, is there a limit on how many it can have, and will it need ID to show how old it is? If Gov. Bush ever took a dog out for this special treat, he better come prepared with a scooper and a mop. I guess restaurants will put out containers to handle any items after accidents. I wonder how long before cat lovers will be protesting this bill? Restaurants would have to post signs "Dogs Only." We had people in the military who were called "chow hounds" because they were always asking for seconds on food. Now restaurants could end up with chows, hounds and many other breeds, and they will have to order extra doggy bags. Kenneth H. Mueller New Port Richey Kudos to Animal Control from a dog's perspective My name is Elvis, and I'm an 11-year-old American Eskimo. My goofy stepbrother is a 2-year-old Siberian Husky named Mickey. Last week, Mickey and I came across an open gate. We walked through and ended up lost and confused, far from home. We were scared. It was time for Dad to call us back into the house, pull his truck out and lock the gate. He would tell us goodbye and to make sure we were rested so we could play when he came back. We usually sleep all day and look forward to Dad returning to play and give us treats. Mickey was usually making all those "woooo-woooo" noises - anything for a cookie. Now, that seemed so far away. Then, a man we know only as Robert with the Hernando County Code Enforcement Department showed up in a white truck. He calmed us as he spoke by radio to Animal Services. He said he needed to stay on the scene until Animal Services got there because he did not think we were very streetwise and he was concerned with vehicle traffic. Thanks to Robert at Code Enforcement and everyone at Hernando County Animal Control, Mickey and I are home again. Our family is complete again and ever-so-vigilant as to keep our loved ones safe, both two- and four-legged types. Oops! Got to go! We hear Dad's truck.
