Tampa is a finalist in the competition to host the 2008 Republican National Convention, the GOP announced Wednesday.

Members of a site selection committee will visit all four cities that bid on the convention in August. Tampa is up against Minneapolis, Cleveland and New York.

“All four cities have their own good times to offer,” said Aaron McLear, a spokesman for the Republican National Committee.

The committee will make a decision on the host city in January 2007.
