Deodorant maker says Tampa's a sweaty city It's the heat and the humidity. The makers of Old Spice deodorant this week named Tampa the ninth-most uncomfortable city in America. Miami is No. 1, based on how hot and muggy a city is in summer. In terms of pure sweatiness, Phoenix is No. 1, but because sweat actually evaporates there, it's a mere No. 4 in discomfort. The precise sweat calculation is tied to how much an average person would perspire walking for an hour in the average high temperatures of a city in June, July and August. Phoenix residents collectively sweat enough in three hours to fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool. Pier's lights won't be the usual illumination And now this - mood lighting for the Pier. The St. Petersburg City Council decided this week to spend $187,000 to install movable lighting at the Pier, lighting that can change colors in a moment and illuminate the head-standing glass pyramid in myriad ways. The lights can be timed for the season, the day, or just because. They should be lit by the holidays. Council members Earnest Williams and Bill Foster voted no. Although they can barge in, they won't A U. S. Supreme Court decision may have given law enforcement officers more leeway in the way they execute search warrants, but authorities say they expect no change in the way they do business. The St. Petersburg police, the Tampa Police Department and Pinellas County Sheriff's Office all say police officers will still announce themselves and give people a chance to respond before entering their homes. Manatee mishap? State wants to know If you accidentally hit a manatee with your boat, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission wants you to report it.
