Woman accused of child abuse

By Times Staff
Published June 19, 2006

NEW PORT RICHEY - A Holiday woman was charged with child abuse Sunday after deputies said she drove off while a 10-year-old child was trying to get into her minivan.

Tamatha M. Diaferio, 38, was held Sunday afternoon on $10,000 bail at the Land O'Lakes jail.

The Pasco Sheriff's Office would not describe Diaferio's relationship with the victim.

Deputies said she and the child were arguing in New Port Richey when she drove off as the child was trying to get in the van.

The child fell down as the van pulled away, deputies said, while Diaferio drove home and went to bed.

Bystanders assisted the child.
