Angry about Father's Day, he then gets DUI charge
ZEPHYRHILLS - For Jose Diana, Father's Day didn't go so well.
Diana, a Tampa resident, was angry that his son had treated him badly on Father's Day and decided to drink away his worries, according to a Pasco County sheriff's report. He then got into his 1991 white Chevy truck, drove through Zephyrhills and slammed into a fence on Clay Street.
According to the report, Diana appeared drunk and failed a field sobriety test but refused to take a Breathalyzer test.
After he was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, Diana created more trouble for himself after he was booked into the Pasco County jail, the Sheriff's Office said. Still angry at the day's events, he took a lighter, which somehow was not confiscated when he was searched at the jail, and lit his shirt on fire. The fire sparked alarms throughout the jail and earned him an additional charge of arson.
Man runs into manager during alleged robbery
ZEPHYRHILLS - Winston Holman Jr. figured Shannon's Produce on Eiland Boulevard would be empty shortly before midnight Sunday, making for a clean getaway, according to a sheriff's report.
But as he climbed down a ladder into the business's walk-in cooler, the 59-year-old was met with a surprise. He hadn't counted on the manager returning.
Holman, who had been loading merchandise from the store into his truck, ran into the woods, trying to escape, according to a sheriff's report. But when deputies arrived, a police dog was deployed and Holman was caught. According to the report, Holman admitted to taking the items, which were valued at $10,550.
Holman was charged with burglary of a business and grand theft.
