CREW INTRODUCTION: The Rowing Organization of Citrus County Students ROCCS is offering a five-day introduction to competitive rowing camp from 8-11 a.m. July 10-14 at Wallace Brooks Park, Inverness. Registration forms are available on-line at www.crewroccs.com or by calling Dave Brown at 464-2075, Ward Cooper at 228-3185 or Dan Carella at 697-3166. The camp is open to middle and high school students, who are good swimmers. A recent sports physical is required. The athletes will be instructed in crew vocabulary, safety training and basic water rowing techniques. The cost is $105. Space is limited.

TENNIS CAMP: Citrus County Parks and Recreation and Tennis Pro, Mehdi Tahiri, will offer Tennis Camp for youth ages 7 to 15 years of age at Bicentennial Park in Crystal River. The camp will be held from 9-10:30 a.m. July 10 through July 28, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays only. The cost is $100 for beginners & advanced players or $15 daily. Students are required to bring tennis racket, tennis balls, cap/visor, sunglasses, water bottle, and snack. To register, contact the Citrus County Parks and Recreation office at (352)795-6520.

SLIP 'N SLIDAY FRIDAY: Citrus County Parks and Recreation is offering Slip "N" Sliday Friday throughout the summer from 1-5 p.m. Fridays through Aug. 4 at Bicentennial Park Pool. A gigantic Slip "N" Slide will be down the hill in back of the pool. Children 5-11 will be $1, 12 and over $2 and kids under 5, free. Arrivals before 1:30 p.m. can get any large pizza w/ one topping for $5, plus tax! The pizza will be delivered right to you at the pool. Regular admission prices still apply. KidzArt Camp: Citrus County Parks and Recreation with the assistance of instructor, Jennifer Barber, will be offering a variety of KidzArt Camps at local schools throughout the summer for children ages K thru 5th grades. The camps will operated from 9:30-1:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday. The cost is $90.00 per week. KidzArt will provide a snack and beverage. Each child will receive a T-shirt with their original are work. Contact the administrative office at 527-7677 for additional information or to pre-register.

KIDZART: Citrus County Parks and Recreation along with instructor Jennifer Barber announces "Squiggles to Grins" for ages 2-4. The program is designed so parents can participate with children creating original art. The classes will be offered at the Citrus Springs Community Center from 10-10:45 a.m. on Tuesdays, July 11 through August 15 and at the Lecanto Community Center from 10-10:45 a.m. Wednesdays, July 5 through August 9. 8TH ANNUAL SUMMER POOL PARTY: Citrus County Parks and Recreation will hold the 8th Annual Summer Pool Party from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. July 5th at the Bicentennial Park Pool. There will be games, prizes and the slip "n slide will be open. Admission is $3 per person and includes pizza and soda. Participation is limited to the first 100 entrants and reservations are recommended. Groups of more than 10 are welcome, but must make reservations. RAY DAY: Citrus County Parks and Recreation invites ages 7-12 to attend the annual Florida Recreation and Park Association sponsored Devil Ray Day to attend a Devil Rays Baseball game in Tampa, Florida. Children will be transported by the Citrus County Transit to the stadium to watch the game, participate in crowd activities and run the bases at the end of the game. This event will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 26. Cost is 20 per child. The fee covers transportation and ticket.

INDIAN CAMP: The annual Indian Culture Camp will be offered from 7:30-5:30 p.m. weekdays, July 24 through July 28 at the Citrus County Auditorium for children ages 7 to 13 years of age. Cost is $50 per child and registration is required. Red Eagle Lodge, an intertribal group, will come in each day to assist the group in making moccasins, medicine bags, necklaces and more. There will be cultural foods, games, and stories. Parents need to provide lunch and beverage. Register before July 7. Call 527-7677. Limited to the first 40 children.

CFCC PLANS CONTINUING EDUCATION COURSES AT APPLETON: Central Florida Community College's CF Institute is offering two art courses beginning in July. The continuing education classes will be held at the Appleton Museum of Art, 4333 N.E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala.

Creative Drawing will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesdays, July 5 through Aug. 16. The course is designed for all levels. Participants will learn new ways to see, interpret and compose. The cost of the course is $85.

Watercolor Painting will be held from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursdays, July 6 through Aug. 17. The course will help participants develop a bold new attitude about watercolors. The cost of the course is $85.

OPEN GYM SCHEDULE: Citrus County Parks and Recreation and the Citrus County School District announce the open gym summer schedule at Crystal River, Citrus and Lecanto high schools. The target age range is 13 to 17 and parents/guardians will be required to register all participants and sign a waiver.

The program will run through July 21. Operating hours are:

-- Crystal River High School: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

-- Citrus High School: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

-- Lecanto High School: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday; and 1 to 5 p.m. Fridays.

STUDY SESSIONS FOR PLACEMENT TESTS: Central Florida Community College Citrus County Campus will offer intensive study sessions for the college placement test.

One-day study sessions for the English and reading portions of the test will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. July 10. One-day study sessions for the math portion will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. July 11. Topics include test-taking strategies, reading comprehension, grammar, arithmetic, and basic algebra. The study sessions will be held on the Citrus County Campus, 3800 S. Lecanto Highway. Students who need extra study help or who have previously been unsuccessful on the test are encouraged to attend. Registration is required and the cost is $15. The sessions are free to those who qualify through CFCC's Educational Opportunity Center. Qualifications include low income and/or current or prospective first generation college or vocational school students. SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS GO EVEN FARTHER AT COMMUNITY COLLEGE: Additional funding will allow high school students eligible for the Florida Medallion Scholars Award through the Florida Department of Education Bright Futures Scholarship Program to receive full scholarships for tuition and up to $300 for lab fees, if they attend a community college associate degree program. Previously, students were only entitled to 75 percent of the tuition cost, and up to $300 for the lab fees. The 75 percent funding still applies if students choose a four-year public college. Students will benefit this fall, after bill HB 5005 becomes a law on July 1. The award is available for students seeking any associate degree: Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, and Associate in Applied Science.

High school students are eligible for the award if they have a 3.0 weighted GPA, and a 970 composite score on the SAT Reasoning Test or 20 composite score on the ACT. SWIM LESSON REGISTRATION AT BICENTENNIAL PARK POOL: Registration for summer swim lessons is open at the Bicentennial Park Pool. They are open to the public, and registration is at any time generally between noon and 7 p.m. Day sessions are July 10-21. Evening classes are July 6 to Aug. 1. Daytime classes meet Monday through Thursday for two weeks, 35 minutes per day. Evening classes are Tuesday and Thursday for four weeks, 35 minutes per night. Cost is $25 per child per session. Children must be at least 5 to participate. For children ages 3 and 4, Citrus County Parks and Recreation offers the Parent and Child Aquatic Program. NEIGHBORHOOD OUTREACH: Citrus County Parks and Recreation will offer the annual Neighborhood Outreach program at Floral Park, Beverly Hills Community Park, and Citronelle Park. The camps will operate 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. weekdays, through July 21 for ages 6-12. This is a free program. For information contact 527-7677.

SUMMER FOOD SERVICE: The Citrus County School l District will participate in the Summer Food Service Program June and July, providing nutritionally balanced meals to all children. Food distribution is approved for sites where 50 percent or more children qualify for free or reduced price meals during the school year.

The summer breakfast and lunch meals will be available for children in the immediate vicinity and to those enrolled in extended school year (summer school).

REALTOR'S INSTITUTE OF CITRUS COUNTY OFFERS COURSES: Central Florida Community College Citrus County Campus and the Realtor's Institute of Citrus County will offer courses for future and current real estate professionals. Pre-license real estate courses will be offered in August and September. This first step toward state licensure as a real estate agent is a 63-hour course. The cost is $285 and includes the required textbook and an optional state exam preparation course. Two additional courses will be held in July for licensed real estate agents. The first course meets the 45-hour requirement that agents must complete within their first licensure period. Course cost is $175, which includes the required textbook. The 14-hour continuing education course for licensed real estate professionals will also be offered in July. Cost for this course is $49. The courses will be held at the Realtor's Institute of Citrus County, 714 S. Scarboro Ave., Lecanto. Registration takes place at Central Florida Community College Citrus County Campus, 3800 S. Lecanto Highway, or by calling Amy Prodan, (352) 249-1210.
