Inkwood Books will host reading tea on Sunday

OSCAWANA - Poetry and book club lovers are invited to a reading tea to meet author Jayne Jaudon Ferrer at 2 p.m. Sunday at Inkwood Books, 216 S Armenia Ave.

Ferrer will read excerpts from her new book of poetry, She of the Rib: Women Unwrapped. The entries tell about domestic abuse, elder care, maintaining a positive self-image in a youth and beauty-obsessed culture, falling in love the second time around, and aging gracefully.

Art for Life seeks submissions for event

PLAZA TERRACE - Art for Life is accepting submissions from local, national, international and student artists for its annual event Sept. 30 at Higgins Hall.

The event, presented by Bright House Networks, features works of all levels in live and silent auctions. This year's signature piece will be Dawning of a New Day by folk artist Mr. B.

Artists have the option of donating submissions or accepting up to a 50 percent commission on the sale price.

Panthers win district softball championship

SOUTH TAMPA - The Tampa Bay Minor A Panthers softball team recently won the Little League Championship in the District VI Tappi Rodriguez Tournament.

The tournament included league champions from Palma Ceia, Bayshore, Interbay, Northside, Skyway, West Tampa, Keystone and Citrus Park.

The Panthers were the only undefeated team, winning four consecutive games to defeat Citrus Park in the finals for the championship.

UT's college of business to offer new major this fall

DOWNTOWN - The University of Tampa's John H. Sykes College of Business this fall will offer a new major for a bachelor of science degree in financial services operations and systems.

Financial services operations and systems is an emerging field that focuses on the application of computer technology and analytical skills to more effectively manage financial services operations.

The major is part of UT's partnership with Financial Florida, a statewide nonprofit organization that seeks to expand financial services in the state. For class information, call 253-6221, ext. 3306.
