Parents urged to get kids' physicals, shots early The Hernando County Health Department is encouraging parents to get their children's required school physicals and shots now, rather than the week before school starts in August. In the past, there have been long lines at the Health Department the week before school starts, with waiting time sometimes close to four hours. Officials says the required immunizations are given on a walk-in basis between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the office at 300 S Main St., Brooksville and 7465 Forest Oaks Blvd., Spring Hill. School physicals are offered by appointment and cost $45. Past shot records, the child's Social Security card and proper adult identification are required with all visits. Also, to give parents an incentive to get their children's immunizations early, now through July 14, the Kiwanis Club of Brooksville will provide giveaways such as gift cards, coloring books and crayons, while supplies last. For information, call the Health Department at 540-6800, ext. 82052.
