SHADY HILLS - A train struck a man who lay between the rails late Friday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The man, identified by the FHP as 41-year-old Jeffery Paulk, was lying on the track north of State Road 52 near Pierce Lake Road about 1:45 p.m. when the southbound train approached. The train's driver tried to stop but could not avoid a collision.

Paulk somehow survived the impact. He was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, where he was listed in critical condition Saturday afternoon. No further information was available at the time.

Sheriff: Ex-husband breaks into house; child calls 911

NEW PORT RICHEY - A man broke into his ex-wife's house and held her captive with a commando knife until a 9-year-old girl sneaked away to call 911, according to reports from the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.

Around 5:30 a.m. Friday, Luke Lallier, 39, rode his bicycle from Port Richey to the house on Empire Court, where he pried open two locks with the knife and entered the master bedroom, where his ex-wife and two children slept, the reports said.

"See what can happen?" he yelled, waving the knife, according to reports. "You'd better not call the police."

The children yelled and screamed as Lallier forced his ex-wife into the kitchen to listen to his problems, the reports said. The 9-year-old girl sneaked to the kitchen counter, grabbed her mother's cell phone and returned to the bedroom to call 911.

Deputies arrived a few minutes later to arrest Lallier. He faces charges of armed burglary, aggravated domestic assault, kidnapping and false imprisonment. He was held at the Land O'Lakes jail on Saturday in lieu of $65,000 bail.
