SMALL PLEASURE

Lancaster, the most well-known town in Pennsylvania Dutch Country, has received the American Bus Association's "Best and the Rest" 2006 recognition for the top "non-big city destination in North America."

We're guessing that means a lot of bus tours go there.

Indeed, each year, ABA surveys its group tour operator members to get their takes on popular cities, up and coming locales, favorite shopping spots and more. The survey is produced by ABA's magazine, Destinations.

Suspicious food

A food writer's bag containing recording equipment, honey, an oyster shell and seasoning rub was blamed for a three-hour shutdown and evacuation of Tallahassee's airport earlier this month.

The electronic gear and organic material looked suspicious to five Transportation Security Administration officers who examined X-ray images of the bag, according to Quinten Johnson, TSA's security director at the airport.

Todd Coleman, food editor for Saveur magazine, was detained but later released after the bag was removed from the terminal and a robot opened it to disclose the contents. Coleman was in Tallahassee to visit his parents and to write about the food of Apalachicola, oysters and Tupelo honey, which Coleman had in his bag.

WWI Museum

Promoters of a new $26-million World War I museum are hoping to get the public interested in a war that took place nine decades ago.

Officials at the Liberty Memorial, the nation's official World War I monument, are unveiling a new logo and creating a promotional campaign that will highlight not only the educational role of the new museum, but also its entertainment value. A tag line to accompany the museum logo - which shows the silhouette of a gun-wielding soldier climbing out of a battlefield trench - consists of three words: Experience, learn and honor.

The museum's gala opening is Dec. 2.
