Bay area builder guarantees price

Bruce Williams Homes promises buyers that if the company offers a better deal next week, they'll get it, too.

Another Tampa Bay area builder, Bruce Williams Homes of Bradenton, is offering a price guarantee to get shoppers to sign a contract. Buyers at the 35-homesite Preserve at Lexington in Parrish are promised that their price is guaranteed from contract signing until the certificate of occupancy is issued.

If the builder offers incentives or bonuses to others during that time, buyers who have already signed contracts will get them, too. If prices rise, the contract price still holds.

"With all the deals in the marketplace, buyers are saying, 'If I buy today, what if next week the deal is better?' " said Beth Day, assistant vice president for marketing.

"This assures them that they don't have to worry about somebody getting a better deal."

Day said Bruce Williams already had its plan and advertisements in the works a few weeks ago when Lennar/US Home made a similar announcement.

"We try to be creative in this market," she said. "We're test-driving it here," at the Preserve at Lexington, where home prices start at $449,900. "If it goes well here, we may offer it elsewhere."

Last year Bruce Williams Homes built 350 homes in Charlotte and Manatee counties. This year it has expanded into Hillsborough.
